Re: Black hunter longbow
I got my new string for my Red Wing Hunter and have it strung up to stretch. I put the string on Friday night and set the brace height at 8" I just checked it this morning (Sunday) and the string has stretched until the brace height is now at 7 1/2". I will shorten the string a bit more and let it s...

Re: Black hunter longbow
I've not heard of these bows before. The price is certainly reasonable. I picked up a vintage Wing Archery Red Wing Hunter recurve for about $80 including shipping. It is a genuine Wing, no Head Ski and no AMF. It is a 58" bow pulling 49# @ 28". It is amazingly smooth when drawn and it has really go...

OK, our 30 days are up. There were 10 people who posted on this thread. There were maybe 3 others who posted on other threads but not this one in the last 30 days. So, we have around a dozen or so folks who are still looking at the site. It is a little sad when one remembers the old days when this s...

I'm guessing you don't have a lot of problems with mice in your basement then. I'd almost take a couple of snakes over the mice. They are a messy nuisance.

On your HAM operation do you and your contacts verify with postcards? I worked with a man once who talked around the world. He had a scrap book of postcards from exotic places. His position was that until you received something postmarked from the place they claimed to be it was at best an if-maybe;...

The patched round ball is way more effective at reasonable ranges than most people would think it is. Congrats on filling your tag.

ROLL CALL!!!
Today is December 8, 2018. In the interest of learning how many of us still look at this site with any regularity I'm asking anyone who sees this for the next 30 days to post a reply. I check this site a couple times a week just in case there is something to see. I'm not doing much that anyone would...

Re: Rust question
Get a magic eraser. They are super fine (800 grit) sanding sponges. I found this out when my dog ate one and I contacted the manufacturer to find out what kind of solvent or other chemical is in the thing. They have no solvent in them and remove stains by sanding them away.

I sure wish this was a right hand bow at that weight. I have one of his bows in solid bocote and it is just beautiful but it is a little too heavy for me to shoot comfortably. It is 57# @ 28. 5 lighter would be perfect.

The Facebook Monster has pretty much killed off this site. The old time regulars (the O.S.S. members) have their own FB page and do all their posting there, at least that is my understanding. I haven't been to their page to see it first hand.

Re: About to pull my hair out!
My first guess would be that the lock plate is plain old carbon steel and will rust readily while the hammer is some harder / tougher alloy that has some chromium or nickel in it that pushes it towards the stainless steel family of metals and makes it much less prone to rusting in addition to making...

A big improvement over that cheap blow molded piece of plastic crap that came on the gun. Congrats on being resourceful enough to take a chance and see what happens.
