Re: Cabela's Traditional Rifles sighting in???

If it is brand new then it just may need to be "shot in" which was the case with my Trade Rifle by Investarms. 3-4 dozen shots up to 100 is usually the case. You may also need to try different patch thickness as well. Start with 1 grain of powder up to your caliber; ie- 50 cal = 50 grains powder. Sh...

Re: Feral hogs in Culpeper VA

In Culpeper there are really feral hogs running about on private property. Now I've actually found this out while scrolling through the web looking up hog hunting opprotunities when I noticed a list of land owners who are hiring hunting to get rid of their feral hog problem. And believe me I'm at l...

Re: Anyone used these bullets?

The .54 cal ball-ets comes only in 338 grains now, but it has proven to give good accuracy out of my trade rifle, but every once in a while if I have a flyer, it would be with that. That's probably due to my getting it off center when starting it in the bore, but it loads fairly easy. The Lee REAL b...

Re: Anyone used these bullets?

Cool, Nice report bull3540. I'm shopping around for a conical for my .54 cal cap lock Trade Rifle with the 1:48 twist (I'm looking for something I can cast.). Might have to give them a try. I would like to know what kind of group you could attain out to 100 yards. What dia. were your OPW's? I never...

Anyone used these bullets?

I picked up a dozen 450 grain Ultimate 1 conicals from Precision Rifle for my .54 cal 1:48 ROT rifle and was wondering if anyone here had experience shooting them? Okay, range report on those conicals. 65 grains T-7, fiber wad, natural lube, 2 inches high (which is expected for target under 50 yards...

Re: What would Be

Both Lyman and Cabelas offer kits that are pretty much inletted the way you want. The barrels on each are made by Investarms and will be good shooters with each stock being alittle different depending on the style represented. Since learing how to shoot a cap lock is easier than a flint lock I'd sug...

Re: Got me a new Lyman GPH Flinter

You might want to see if adding a fiber wad in between the powder and the REAL bullet helps things, as long as it stays in place once loaded.

Re: Hunting hogs with muzzleloader

Yes, round ball will kill a hog, shot placement is important no matter what projectile you use. Mine is a .54 cal. Bull, Have you ever neck shot one with the round ball? Tommy Not yet, but have used the neck shot with centerfire rifles and have never had to track a hog. The soft lead round ball is ...

Actually that gives you a few more selections as the .50 is a bit more popular.

Re: New Muzzeloader

The Great Plains 1:66 rifle will shoot the Maxi-ball/hunter very well and with more mass than a sabot, plus a soft lead ball is a very effective game getter. If cost is an issue then you might want to look at the Lyman trade rifle, or even getting the kit for of it or the GPR. If you already have ev...
