Chowan NC WMA?

Anyone here have any knowledge of the Chowan WMA? Apparently 27K acres along the river? We're in Va but looking to move down south to get out of the crowd here in SE Va.

Hows the hunting there?

Crowd?

Access?

Type of terrain? wet, thick, swamps etc....?

thanks

Ray, Kinda figured 16 fps loss was pending? But I'm hoping maybe not so much and praying not more than 16 fps... I'm trying to avoid having to buy a new bow. My current RER 51# @28" shoots unbelievably sweet. Anyone who witnesses it shoot remarks on how quiet, and great my arrow flight is. Just seem...

I haven't been shooting recurves as long as yourself (2-3yrs) but I too used to just come to the corner and let her fly. Becasue I need more draw length I am am always looking for improvement I have started drawing to a solid anchor, holding and release (fingers). You are correct accuracy is up and ...

Re: Opinions Please (honestly)

Looks really nice. A "Non-Constructed" model (low profile) in maybe an OD green with deep brown logo or the reverse a brown low profile with deep green logo...... The ones with the leather adjuster in the back really kick it up.....

But great like you have it for sure.....

Re: your survival gear/skills

Don’t think it can’t happen to you. The wilderness I hunt here in Va is only 230,000 acres, small when compared to you guys out west. After nearly 40 years of outdoor adventures, hunting, hiking, fishing etc… it finally happened last fall, I got lost, real lost! Simply put, I was helping a long time...

Re: Kinetic Energy Arrow Weight / Speed

Great info. From what I can take from his study, as I suspected weight is the key?? I plan on increasing another 100 gr and crossing my fingers my speed stay up. I'm in the high 20s KE now but want more into the 30s ...

Thanks

Re: Kinetic Energy Arrow Weight / Speed

I have spent way too much time trying to figure out the best set up with regard to speed over weight. For what its worth the first four whitetails passed right thru. Then Mr Pig steps up to the plate and I got less than 3 inches penetration at 14 yards? Needless to say I've come back to the drawing ...

I have used turkey (my favorite) many times and tried goose. The goose feathers seemed a little lite to me? Not as stiff as the turkey feathers so I no longer mess with them. I really want some white natural features and have been searching for either a snow goose or a Swan. Just got word the other ...

Born2hunt.. Is that a clothes rack on the right side? I built PVC racks that we zip tie to the foot of each bunk. A simple three pieces pipe deal that slides together. Everyone brings hangers with them and it allows you to hang your clothing. Super handy on those rainy trip like yours.

John, I lived in a GP med for several months back in the late 80s and yes they are REALLY heavy. I couldn't swing the price of the newer wall tents so settled for a old military surplus. Not real pretty but gets the job done most of the time... Post some pic if you get them... About the arrow sticki...

Ken, yeah it's pretty heavy tent with poles is roughly 150#. The places I hunt we are able to get in with ATV so packing isn't a big deal. Like I said it ain't pretty but the old military stuff works... Although rather junky after a week it does a pretty good job for three of us.

Heck yeah! just tape and spray them turns out fine. NOw when it comes to sealing them later there can be some challenges. Using wipe on sealant can make it run so some folks use spray sealant. I have tried numerous brands and different combinations of paints and for me they all run if not careful. I...

Re: Tents

Picked up a military GP small several years ago and love it. Use an old army wood stove, GI cots and it's like home. Not as pretty as the Cabela's Wall tents and the other fancy ones but gets the job done.. and much cheaper..

PS new here, seem like a nice place and super easy to post with pic...
