Re: Getting ready for elk season
I was just reading your post. Good luck on your hunts! Don't forget to post pictures of your success. I'm not a metallurgist but you said you made up a mix of soft lead and chilled hard shot hoping to get a harder round ball. My understanding of chilled shot is it's the process of chilling it fast i...

How do you post from your computer? I thought one had to use some kind of server or domain? This is a big issue on several of the forums I frequent.

Quiver and backpack?
How do those of you who hunt in remote area carry your arrows when a pack is being worn? I carry a internal frame pack with game bags, water, food etc. if I am succesful I usually have to pack meat out on my back. I'm struggling with a way to carry my arrows. When out stump shooting or practicing, I...

Back with recurve after a long absence
Archery deer season started here in NV. I was lucky to draw a tag. I can't go until Monday but I've heard of a few guys with training wheels have scored already! My wonderful wife gave me a Sowthwest Archery Spider last Christmas and I am really impressed with it. My old Browning recurve gave up a l...

Re: new member in Moore oklahoma
I figured I'd find you here!
Getting ready to go chase mulies here in NV, I drew a archery tag in the second draw. It's a good unit so we will see. I have been shooting my recurve and feel good! Hopefully I can get close enough in this durn open country!
Nice bow! Where's mine?

First doe with a flintlock
Just wanted to share a few pics of my Colorado Doe hunt. My buddy, my nephew and I went three for three! I wanted to take mine with my .62 trade gun, so I loaded her up and went for it. This youngster jumped out in front of me and was all alone, so nothing to compare her size to so I let the sparks ...

Re: 40 for squirrels??
.40 is fine for squirrels. I use a .45 and the meat damage is not an issue with head shots. Amazingly enough body shots are not too bad either, I think a .22 LR does more damage when you hit the body. I have taken a bunch with the .32 though. my concern with the .45 is where the ball comes back to e...

Re: Righ and Left handed flintlock??
That all makes sence Captchee. I have been mulling it over and I am just going to build a lefty flinter, and keep the .32 a right handed flinter. I and as you said with the dedicated lock the blow out goes out perpendicular to the barrel, so risk of injury to shootoer is unlikely as they get older t...

Re: Righ and Left handed flintlock??
Thanks. My thoughts are more on the mental side. I realize there will still be some pressure released from the right side vent, but not too much, plus it will be directed strait out. double barrel flint shooters deal with it, and the issue with cap guns ( as far as my boy is concerned) is the flash ...

Re: What got you started in Traditional ML?
Like some of the folk said earlyer, I have always thought simpler is better. My first rifle was a single shot T/C Contender, one shot one kill. While in college I was a workstudy at the audio visual department and my boss was into doing rendezvous. He invited me out to go to the local rendesvous one...

After reading my post, I realised I was not very clear.. There is a company called "the Hawken Shop" on line. They sell Hawken style rifles, parts and stuff. I was wondering if any one has one of their flintlocks and had any reports. For a shop that has been around for so long you would think someone...

Re: Coyotes and Deer
If you have a high enough population the damage will be done to the fawn crop. For the most part once the fawns are a couple of days old they and moma will do fine. When the Yote numbers and the deer numbers get high what happens is kind of like a shotgun approach to things, there are just more chan...

:applaud: Wow great Buck !!! Back to the load discussion It sounds like the ball was found in the shoulder neck area? If so, the hide right there is some of the toughest on the critter, especialy during the rut.. it has to take a lot of abuse while fighting. Like some of the other guys said, if he w...

I'm with shovelbuck.. Several clues... Hunter and elk not center of photo so whoever did it wanted to make sure cat was in. If the cat was in the photo by chance, it would just be a piece or it would be directly behund hunter.. Also, Cat that close to human is not going to be just standing there, he...
