Dry spell is over

Hadn't shot a deer since 2012 and it was time to get it done as the season ends 1/15. Put meat in the freezer yesterday morning. :)

Re: Ramin Arrows?

10 or so years ago I built a bunch of arrows from Ramin. That money seems high to me. If i remember correctly, I was paying 30 bucks for a hundred shafts back then. They worked ok but didn't last / hold up as well as cedar.

Re: Shed Hunting

I used to be hard core for shed hunting but in the past couple years with both knees shot, I don't get in nearly enough miles to find many although I do manage to scoop up a few. Here's a few pics. 86 inches http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b316/Shovelbuck/Antlers/DSCN1362.jpg 85 inches http://i22....

Re: Fireball

The shutter was "opened" when the hammer was back, thus capturing that image, then after the shot, I closed the shutter. The drop of the hammer is just a very light blur and not dominant. Capt, I hope it ain't blowing back!!!! The gun was not cocked and ready for the next shot. Here s another ...

Went out at dusk yesterday to get a photo of my Walker Colt being fired. Load was 60 grains FFF Goex and .454 ball.

Re: Turkey feathers

I've used tail feathers on my bamboo arrows. They aren't near as durable as wings but they will work. Yes, keep your rights and lefts seperate on different arrows.

Re: whats your favrite muzzleloader

I've got a bunch of front stuffers that I enjoy, but I guess the favorite is still my first flintlock. Built over 30 years ago, it's been used, and used hard. The wrist has been broken twice, another fall took a large piece from the top of the forearm. I keep putting her back together as the native ...

Tuesday's Turkey :)

I really had to talk myself into heading out yesterday as the winds were blowing 25 to 30 mph and I really don't like turkey hunting in that kind of weather. But with snow and rain predicted for the next few days, I figured I'd better go. I sat in my normal spot for an hour or so, and after not bein...

Today's quick hunt

I would of liked to have savored the experience a bit longer but when this guy gave me the opportunity, I took it. Left the house this morning at 9:20 and arrived at my hunting spot at 9:50. Loaded the gun and got the camera out when a couple hens and two toms came out of the timber into the corn. I...

Re: Original Hawken rifles.

Years ago, I was fortunate enough to have a couple friends that had original S. Hawkens. Was even luckier to shoot one of them. Both had barrels of about 54 cal and around 36 inches in length. One had a tapered barrel, the other was straight. I never put a tape measure to them. Both were half stocks...

Re: First timer looking to get a turkey

Without a blind be sure to stay in the shadows. Place your decoy or decoys about 5 yds from you. Toms seem to sometimes hang up about 15 or 20, yds from the decoys and if the decoys are close, he is still in range. I like hunting mid day. The girls are away from the toms then and the big boys are lo...

Re: Turkey Season/Gun Choice

Our season for archery is going now but shotgun starts in a couple weeks. Trail cam photos show that the birds have made their annual spring return to my hunting grounds and I'm ready for season to start. :) My fowler will get the nod again this year as it continues to never let me down. Re: New Deer Rifle

Great gun!!! I haven't seen a Kodiak without express sights in 20 years but I suppose they are out there. I sighted in my .50 Kodiak so the rear leaf is the right barrel at 50 yds and the front leaf takes care of the left at 100.

I use a lot of different home made heads, but for a factory made go to head, I go with Tusker Aztecs. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b316/Shovelbuck/Archery/DCP_0034-Copy.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b316/Shovelbuck/Hunting%20seasons%2007/Forumpic.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...
