Lynx times 4

Post by chilcotin hillbilly » Thu Feb 13, 2014 9:22 pm

I just finished guiding four great archers this week. Having hunted with one of the guys two years ago he brought 3 friends to hunt for lynx here in BC.
We had a blast, two guys shooting Trad gear two with wheel bows, here is a great picture of the lynx we took. A crazy 48 hrs of dog hunting.

That's awesome! Watching Fred Eichler hunt bobcats and mountain lions and also reading about someone hunting lynx up in BC has me wanting to do this some day! Looks like it would be hard work, but awesome.

It is a fun hunt, one that works well with buddies. It is the first time all four friends got to share in each others kill shots. The average walk in to a tree was about 3/4 of a mile in pretty easy country.

What a feat for a guide. All four getting one is something.

Congratulations on a great hunt. Must be a healthy population of lynx in your area, obviously you've got some great dogs.

Gary,
the population is not as good as some areas but good enough you can usually find atleast one good track a day sometimes 4 or 5. Not many guys can catch lynx consistantly up here, my dogs have mastered it after years of learning. Now they seem to make it look easy. When training I leave the cougars alone as any hound will catch a cougar, lynx are a different story. When the hounds learn to catch lynx day in day out they make cougar hunting look like childs play other then the cougar will kill the odd dog, you don't have that problem with lynx.
I really enjoy watching my dogs develop into the quality of hounds they have become. When I am not guiding I am hunting my dogs because this is what i love to do.
Thanks for all the nice comments.
