Three for one bow's

Postby stickandlimb » Sat Nov 28, 2015 4:02 pm

I picked out a piece of wood from Jerry Stover about 5 years ago and after I got home with it I seen it had a limb knot in the middle about where I would put a handle........not knowing much about how to make a bow yet I put it aside . After 5 years and being around people like Ralph and Tommy I seen what to do with it......but I didn't expect to get three bow's from the same piece of wood.......They are a work in progress and I will post a new picture as I finish each one....

There You Go Buddy. I think you're getting the hang of it. Now you're gonna be looking for trash wood to make character bows out of. Those look good to me. Love the Holy Bow. :77:

Looks like that hanging around Ralph and Tommy has paid off. Good job. (Just hope you didn't pick up any of their bad habits along the way.)

Leslie, it looks like you have a slight hinge in the lower limb about 5 inches from the bottom of your hand. It could be the angle the pic was shot from. I'm kinda going by the bow's bend and the vertical frame of the window behind it. Just be careful with it.

I agree with ksbow. It looks like it bends alright right next to the fade for a few inches and then goes into a hinge and doesn't bend as much as it should through mid limb. May be just the shape of the stave and more pics would be needed to tell for sure but it sure does look beautiful! I would take a few more scrapes in the middle limb of the bottom one and get it bending a little more. Again more pics needed to tell for sure. Just my two cents.
Thanks!

It is the angel that the picture was taken ....but it is the scrap from beside the piece I made my pip sight bow from ...so it is all it can be........shoots good ......my next bow is from the scrap's from under the pip bow that I put together with copper tubing..........Now it might have a hing or two :rolf: and maybe a crack .....there is a few knots in the last bow that made it look hinged ....and a few more in the next one .

There was a limb hole at that location that I filled with saw dust and supper glue.....had to leave it a little thick so not to break.......it made the spot below look hinged but it's not ......Its only about a #25 bow...fun to shoot......it was scrap before I made it and if it goes back to scrap I had fun with it while it lasted :archer2:

Hey, Leslie, I usually start out with a good piece of wood and they turn to scrap after I make the bow!! You're doing good, Brother, and we should all have a few 25# bows for introducing new shooters.
