March 24, 25, 26, 27, 2016. I read it in my summer Drawknife and entered it in my phone so I could remember.

Our Spring Break is the week before that and the OSS FB page says 17,18,19,20th. I too looked in the Summer Drawknife and sure as heck it gave the dates Mikee stated above. If it's those date, we'll have to be out as Greyden will be in school and I can't leave Dianne here alone with him. Sure hope there was a screw up on the dates.

I couldn't get the Okselfbow/OJAM website to come up. Didn't think about the FB page. Need to look for it more often I guess.

Well, isn't that just great. I have been telling everyone those dates from the Drawknife.
The dates are wrong on the OKSelfbow site also, needs to be updated.

I guess I need to contact some folks and let them know about the dates. :?

Mikee, I'm glad those dates are wrong, otherwise ole KsBow would still be in Kansas, maybe getting ready for Turkey season. Now I can come to Perkins, relax, lounge, shoot, and visit with friends. :applaud:

Mike: There is no pre-registration, but there is registration at the OJAM location. There will be more posted to this web site in the weeks ahead, but if you want info. on the location, go to this web site. http://www.ojam.org/Map.htm

You can PM me or if you want to come to our annual OSS banquet in Norman, OK on 6 Feb., you'll hear a lot about the upcoming OJAM. Batch Springs is on three hours away. Hint.

I don't know what is wrong but I can't get ojam.org website to come up. I've tried several different ways and all I get is "unable to find server" or "problem loading page".

Tried it on three different computers and servers and got the same results.

Yep, tried that one on my home pc and at work too. It tries for a few seconds and then jumps to ojam.org
and I get the same results. I use Firefox and the work PC is set on IE so it's not my browser.

This will be my first OJAM to attend, I've been trying to go for years but life kept slapping me down. But will tools be provided to build a bow or is it highly encouraged to bring your own? I have a few things like a draw knife that's older than my dad, and maybe a rasp or two, but not sure if I have all the tools needed and I wouldn't want to impose on anyone. Also, does someone sell aged staves there and about how much would they run? I've been looking for a bois d'arc to cut and wedge into staves but have yet to find one large or straight enough. I'm also assuming camping is the way to go?

The staves run $60-$100. You can camp or get a hotel nearby but I would say that camping makes it much easier and closer. It would be nice for everyone to bring their tools even if it's not the exact tools you need just because everyone there has tools if you really need it but there is only so much to go around. We would be happy to share but there is only a finite amount we have. It's always great fun and the people there are great. Hope to meet you there!
Thanks!

Thanks for the info and advice tradER! I'll save up for a stave or two and do a little research to see what tools I need most at the minimum and see what I can get so I don't have to put someone else out a tool. I plan to get into this as a strong hobby so I might as well get the tools anyway!

I know drawknife, rasps, scraper for sure. Anything else you would advise getting? I've seen planers and spoke shapers, small files, sand paper and hand axes listed as tools of the trade. I like to stay simple in just about everything I do, I feel it's more rewarding to accomplish something with few tools, but I'm out of my element here being so new.

If you do a search for tools on Tradrag, you'll see lots of threads. This is one of the better ones.

On top of what Mike posted I would say the best thing I ever bought was a Nicholson #50 rasp, a half round bastard file, and a farriers rasp. The Nicholson #50 really takes off wood but you can also be pretty gentle with it. Definitely my favorite tool even though it is quite expensive. I believe I got mine off amazon and you can get away without it but once you really start making bows you will use it a ton. A good to get is one sold by Jerry stover at ojam. He sells two sizes and the are about 2"x10" and 2"x5" and my favorite is the smaller one. They bend and you can really take some wood off. Another good one to get is a goose neck scraper for chasing rings. I also think a slightly dull drawknife and a sharp drawknife are good to have for different purposes. Sand paper from 100-600 grit would be the most used but I also go further into the 2000 grits. Of course you don't need to get most of this and can get by with a pretty limited amount of tools. I wouldn't recommend getting all especially until you find what you like when your making bows because some tools I do like others may not. I've never had any use for hand axes but some people do. It's a bunch of preference so start out with just basic stuff drawknife, scraper, a few different rasps, etc. like Mike posted until you find what tools you like to use that makes it easier for you.
Thanks!

This might not be the best place to ask but it seems to be the most active thread lately. Does anyone know anything about Poggins aka Billy. He has been absent on the site for a long time and I wonder is he OK?

Oh, that's good. I thought something might have happened to him like maybe he met some eligible female and was distracted from the more important things. You know romance and matromony has put the brakes on many a promising hunting, fishing and outoorsman careers.

Billy always has a lot of irons in the fire. Now that he literally has his forge going, he's really busy. As Tim said, he's been helping his Dad out a lot and with foul weather every now and then, he's spent more hours on his job. :campfire:

Sorry I haven't been here lately Zeek .
My father has taken over management of a scrap yard a couple months ago about the time scrap prices fell , the previous manager didn't keep the scrap moving and set on a lot of it that was bought at higher prices .
If they would have ran the yard right there would be no need for me to help out , they didn't keep the cash coming in all the time and have money in the bank for slow times like this .
There is between 70-100 tons ( yes tons ) of vehicle engines setting in the yard that my dad can't sell ( no body buying them right now ) and they will loose about $70 a ton at current prices .
I'm trying to help him move enough to keep the yard going until prices come back up and he can hire and train a couple good hands , my brother has been helping haul scrap off now , dad I the only one working the yard during the week , he has to operate the scales , deal with the cans , copper and other ferrus metals that come in and unload the scrap , then get a load or two ready to haul off to cover bills , all this at the age of 79 .

So between my regular job , helping dad , working on the trade bow , working with the forge , hunting , cutting fire wood , and my regular chores I haven't had much time for anything else , so no wild dates ether .
I am going to banquet and OJAM ( weather permitting ) . Still have to work on some donations fore the banquet also ( steak flipper and fork about finished , sorry no fancy twists in these this time ), I'll have a stave or two and maybe some bees wax if I can get to it .
